Integrative Dry Needling: an advanced approach to treating pain
Aquatic Therapy

What is Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy continues to grow in popularity as a safe complement or alternative to traditional land-based therapy. Aquatic Therapy uses the natural floating properties of water to aid in exercises without the loading and compressive forces that are present while on land.
Is Aquatic Therapy covered by my insurance?
Yes, this is a physical therapy treatment and will correspond with your physical therapy benefits. Not all medical or physical therapy professionals are trained to perform aquatic treatment. The physical therapists at Action Physical Therapy have advanced training, thereby providing you with the best care possible.
Conditions that can be treated with aquatic therapy include, but are not limited to the following:
  • back pain
  • bursitis
  • knee pain
  • tendinitis
  • sciatica
  • muscle strains
  • post-surgical
  • chronic pain
  • neurological patients
    • CVA, SCI, TBI, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s, MS, etc.
  • fibromyalgia
  • pregnancy
  • stenosis
  • lumbar disc pathology
  • hip pain
  • arthritis
  • ankle sprains
  • athletic performance enhancement
  • and many more
Benefits of Aquatic Therapy
1. The buoyancy of the water reduces the effects of gravity, which allows for increased joint range of motion and decreased pain with movement.
2. Water has 600-700 times more resistance than air, which allows for more strengthening to occur.
3. Warm water provides a relaxing and soothing environment for aching joints and muscles.
4. For patients with neurological disorders the water helps decrease abnormal tone, spasticity, and rigidity.
5. Water pressure helps support and stabilize the patient, allowing people with balance deficits to perform exercises without a fear of falling.
6. Another important advantage of aquatic therapy is that it can often begin before land-based therapy. For athletes looking to get back into competition, or busy professionals who want to recover from surgery as quickly as possible, this makes a water-based program the best choice.
What should I bring with me?
Locker rooms will be provided. We encourage patients to bring their own swim attire and towels whether that be a swimsuit or comfortable t-shirt and shorts. You may also bring any toiletries or items needed if you would like to take a shower afterwards.
What if I can’t swim?
Most classes are conducted in shallow water with participants’ feet on the bottom. You don’t even have to get your hair wet!
